Magnificent Birds of Prey drop EP

Primary URL:

From Philadelphia comes Alternative rockers Magnificent Birds of Prey who just released his latest self titled 8 track effort in 2013. Right from the start it might be easy to just categorize the cats as straight ahead Phily rockers, and write themoff as the newest faddish/trending thing around that region. It wouldn’t be wise, though. Sure, if you listen to some of his more catchier tunes within this 8 song line-up like :Anthem” and Wolves a Comin” that’s the impression you would likely get. However there is a method to their madness. There are some really good songs on this EP “Lighthouse”, “Aviator Glasses” “Spent” that step outside the modern rock music boundaries. Some even go against the grain that really open up the album. This enhances the listening experience rather than limit it for me. Magnificent Birds of Prey is obviously experienced at performing and writing music, but it’s the combination of all of the above that makes Magnificent Birds of Prey so deadly. I mean, there is nothing here that really seems all that original or fresh but perhaps that is why Magnificent Birds of Prey are on our Radar screens in the first place. Forgive me if I’m talking in circles – but some bands can deliver music that’s pretty straight forward, conservative and painfully simple yet brilliant in scope – but you’d be a fool to underestimate them. In lieu of the amazing string of songs this EP delivers it almost feels as if Magnificent Birds of Prey are really on to something. The Magnificent Birds of Prey (EP) is a one of a kind musical statement that’s closely tied to classic punk rock, but has a more modern alt-rock sound.

I hate to pigeonhole but I can hear Death Cab for Cutie, All American Rejects, Postal Service and The President of the United Sates of America. Magnificent Birds of Prey will please a wide range of musical personalities in the process. Sure it’s possible that future releases (Full Length CD) will demonstrate more musical molding or identity developing. Many bands start off sounding like another act in a descript way only to develop their trademark sound later. But when Magnificent Birds of Prey is finally over one walks away felling these guys are on to something special.

Magnificent Birds of Prey are an amazing artist and is not to be underestimated. Like so many before them they makes it look easy. One must never forget it’s never as easy as it looks or sounds. Let’s leave all that to the experienced professionals shall we.
